PoderArte x Senderos
June 2023: Senderos was 1 of 28 organizations that received the PoderArte grant to create our community video project Cantos Entre Senderos. PoderArte was launched to amplify the importance of arts and culture and to channel vital resources to our artists—the culture bearers, keepers, and teachers who help us dream up a better world.
CANTOS ENTRE SENDEROS
With support from LCF PoderArte, Senderos collaborated with Jaime Molina and Joaquin Barreto to lead a self- and community-care retreat for our instructors, youth, and their families. Following the retreat, we collaborated with local filmmaker Megan Martinez Goltz who gathered and weaved the stories of retreat participants to create Cantos Entre Senderos video series.
Through these stories, we hope to strengthen the power of intergenerational unity for a collective future. Communities cultivate hope, motivation, and trust when their cultural richness and generational gifts are honored, embodied, and shared with pride.

Historias de Cultura, Oaxaca in Santa Cruz: Comida, Medicine and Music
Santa Cruz filmmaker Megan Martinez Goltz made 3 films in partnership with Senderos. While finding ways to recover during the COVID-19 post-pandemic era, indigenous elders share how accessing traditions from their homelands in Oaxaca are a vital tool for healing not only themselves but also their communities in Santa Cruz, California. This 3 part series explores elements of comida (food), medicina (medicine), and música (music), and how each of these items carry specific traditions helping to uplift throughout all aspects of life.
